Yeah if you need a fixed ip you are mostly limited to business class service. I know Comcast is really pushing business class stuff here in Fresno, CA. Might be worth looking into, although you will pay about $99 for 6 MB down, 5 public ips, and like 8 email addresses.

recently bumped up my connection, have 25mb down and 25mb upload now. Consistantly get the 25mb down but average about 20 up.

Hehe updated my plan too, now have 35Mbs Symmetric.

Was doing a check, on my connection to see if I have router or modem issues. THis was hooked directly to the modem. I think there is an issue outside the house because of the constant fluctuation of results.

Holy crap I just did a test for the hell of it and I am getting nearly 45Mbs down now! And I was streaming some video at the same time FIOS is cool.

Nice! I could only get as much as 30 down and up with fios in my area, but 5mb wasn't worth the extra $40 a month to me.

I got it as part of a new tv phone internet package. This was the default internet plan with it.

damn I have to rub my eyes to make sure I'm seeing those numbers right... Do you get a fixed IP with those plans? Can you run any kind of server? Do they do any form of traffic shaping?

I remember when cable first became available here and no one cared what the down and up speed was because it blew dial up away. The 20MB down I get now is plenty for me. I can't see myself needing anything more for quite awhile.

Dynamic IP (but it does not change very often).

No "servers" allowed, but personal stuff should be ok like Sling Box, ftp into a personal computer stuff like that.

So far I have not heard anything about Traffic shaping with Verizon (unlike Comcast).
